friday favorites :: take me away

Happy Friday Lovelies! I’m not sure where you are in the world but here in lovely North Carolina winter is feeling more like the beginning of summer. Just this week we’ve had temperatures in the mid 60s and in our backyard frogs have been singing every night. Which is very unusual since the frogs and my garden are thinking it’s spring. Here are a few images to inspire your weekend and hopefully bring some summer into your winter! (bicycle fine art photograph by mosdurf)

Book Sculptures by Wim Botha

South Africa-based artist Wim Botha sees books slightly different than most of us do. He creates haunting sculptures made from stacks of hardback books, literally carving out characters from the pages. Most recently his works were on exhibition at the Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town.

The Girl With Seven Horses by Photographer Ulrika Kestere

Photographer Ulrika Kestere recently completed a series of images called The Girl with Seven Horses and it reminds me of times when you were little and make-believe stories surrounded everything. Her concept for these imaginative images is pretty simple but very creative:

“Once upon a time there was a girl who had 7 invisible horses.”

“People thought she was crazy and that she in fact had 7 imaginative horses, but this was not the case.”

“When autumn came the girl spent a whole day washing all her clothes.”

“She hung them on a string in her garden to let the gentle autumn sun dry them.”

“Out of nowhere, a terrible storm came and its fiercefull winds grabbed a hold of all her clothes and all seven horses.”

“The girl was devestated and spent all autumn looking for each horse spread around the country, wrapped in her clothes.”

A Burlap and Lace Wedding Reception by Jenny Keller Design

Attention brides! If your wedding day involves burlap you’ll want to take notice of what Jenny Keller (pictured above) of Jenny Cookies has created! She has basically created the cutest dessert table for one of her brides wedding receptions. With hints of tan, dark brown and creme throughout this design, Jenny has created a warm and romantic table with cake pops and sweets for guests to enjoy. Not only is the entire design lovely, the cake has an added simplicity with a large burlap rosette.

Currently Jenny lives in Washington State but Hollywood has taken notice of her knack for making some of the line baked goods from chocolate chip cookies to wedding cakes. She recently appeared on Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood and will be published in CelebraTori this year!
