first friday = 100 hearts, painted ladies & lovely birds
Happy Friday all! It’s pretty rainy and cold here in Raleigh but if you are looking for something fun to do tonight be sure to stop by Artspace. It’s First Friday and they have a ton of art to take in plus you get the chance to visit the artists’ studios and talk with them directly about their work.

The talented Eric McRay with his 100 Heart Inspired Paintings
If you happen to be looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift why not give art to someone you love this year? Eric McRay of McRay Studios is another fabulous artist who is upstairs in Artspace. He has an opening tonight for his sweet series of paintings - 100 Hearts: Art is for Lovers.

All of his heart themed designs are available until February 14th and $75 for one or $100 for two. They are on a first come first served basis, so if you see something you like, hurry over to his studio since several have already sold!

Not only is Artspace full of local talent from North Carolina but tonight is pretty special! It is the first official First Friday for Janelle Howington. She was recently awarded the Regional Emerging Artist in Residence and will be working in her new studio (#108)! I was lucky enough to get a chance to sit down and talk with Janelle about her amazing artwork! You’ll get to learn more about her on my Design Tuesday post for Savor NC Magazine this coming Tuesday!

One of my favorite artists Garrett Scales, who you might remember from my interview last year, has a couple of his gorgeous paintings on exhibit. He was the last Regional Emerging Artist-in-Residence at Artspace and this is his follow up show titled Where The Wyld Things Are. If you have never seen his work up close and in person, you have to! It’s quite extraordinary and I’ve promised myself I will have own of his originals in my home at some point – I just have to find the wall space since they are quite large.

So there you have it! Get out and support local artists and buy some art for your Valentine this year! Artspace will be open for First Friday tonight until 10PM. Happy weekend all!
